Prepare for taxes. If you make money via affiliate marketing, you can be sure that you’re going to have to pay taxes on that income. At the beginning of each year, your partner companies should send you a 1099 tax form. If they don’t, you’re still required to report the income to the IRS.
I am in direct sales and I have been trying to find new ways to market my products. I really like how this book looks at everything in a totally different way I would have never thought to open my eyes to a totally different outlook on things. This book takes you step by step on how to use affiliate marketing and breaks everything down so it is very easy to understand. while it also tells you why you do things a certain way. each chapter unfolds another way affiliate marketing works differently and why it works differently. I like that this is a easy read so was very fast and easy to understand.
Is it a blog or website? If it’s just a blog, I usually don’t like a homepage blogroll – I prefer an actual page telling you what the website is about (eg. for me it’s just listing all my tutorials). But ya, StudioPress is where I’d go.
Two-tier programs exist in the minority of affiliate programs; most are simply one-tier. Referral programs beyond two-tier resemble multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing but are different: Multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing associations tend to have more complex commission requirements/qualifications than standard affiliate programs.[citation needed]
You’ve built up your audience to the point where they know you aren’t trying to scam them or make a quick buck. If they subscribe to a service or buy a product because you suggested it, they’d love for you to get a cut!
When I first published it, I put it up on reddit a few places, and on a facebook group I’m in. It was sitting at #3 the day I published it, then it slowly slipped back down the front page of google. It went all the way down to the bottom of the 2nd page, and sat there for a week or so. Then I saw it randomly just shot up to 2 again.
Theme – you don’t need a special theme for affiliate marketing, you probably just need a blog. I recommend StudioPress themes since that’s what Yoast, Matt Cutts (from Google), and I use. Matt Mullenweg, founder of WordPress also recommends them. One of the biggest mistakes I made was using a theme from Themeforest… since they’re built by independent developers who may stop making updates to their theme. This happened to me and I hear horror stories all the time about people having to switch themes and redesign their entire site. I’ve been using the same StudioPress theme (Outreach Pro) for 3 years. Their themes are lightweight (load fast), SEO-friendly via optimized code, secure, and they have a huge selection of plugins for the Genesis Framework and an awesome community in the Genesis WordPress Facebook Group. They include documentation for setting it up and will serve you for many, many years.
For my newsletter provider I use Aweber and highly recommend them. Overall I could attribute at least five to ten percent of my total income due to my email lists because I like to focus on promoting products heavily to my lists during the holidays which leads into my next tip.
Forms of new media have also diversified how companies, brands, and ad networks serve ads to visitors. For instance, YouTube allows video-makers to embed advertisements through Google’s affiliate network.[18][19] New developments have made it more difficult for unscrupulous affiliates to make money. Emerging black sheep detected and made known to the affiliate marketing community with much greater speed and efficiency.[citation needed]
Hi, Nice article. I am not sure about the process though. I can understand, finding a niche. But, when it comes to affiliate programs I get a little lost. Would I be promoting someone else’s products? If so, no problem. I know I need to research high end products with gravity, are these products ones in certain stores, or companies, etc.?? If so, do I need to get permissions to be on an affiliate program with that company? Also, if it is products with a company, then how do I offer promotions on their products since they are not mine? Thank you, Nanette Vlahusich
Another mistake affiliate marketers make is that they run ads just on their own sites. This isn’t wrong but there are just so many other sources of traffic that you have the chance to use for promotion all at the same time. The more the traffic that your sales page gets, the higher are your chances of making money online.
The reality in affiliate marketing is much the same reality in other work-at-home ventures; there are a few who are filthy rich, a good number who are successful enough to meet their goals, and a ton who aren’t making anything. So, the question isn’t really whether or not affiliate marketing is a viable income option (it is), but whether or not you can make affiliate marketing work for you.
Most newbies in affiliate marketing make the mistake of registering with too many affiliate programs and try promoting everything they see. If this is the path you are treading, then it will overwhelm you and you won’t promote the products properly. Take time to understand the needs in the market and search for products that will go well with your site’s topic.
Drive traffic to your affiliate program. Once you’ve built a popular platform and secured affiliates to work with, you’ll need to drive traffic to your affiliate program. There are a number of ways to accomplish this, but one of the easiest and most successful methods involves writing a blog post or web article and using your email newsletter to invite your subscribers to join the affiliate program of your choosing.[18] Other methods include:
Personally I think affiliate marketing is one of the best business models out there at the moment. If you can cultivate an emotional connection with a target audience through product advertisement then you can make a heck of a lot of money.
If you have to earn $50-$100 commission you have to sell product of cost $500-$1000 (If you’ll get 10% commission). If anyone who is reading have the potential to sell product of this much amount then why not he/she should start selling his/her own product. And money ultimately comes when a service or product is sold! So if you can write an Ebook then write another which you can sell for money!
Very nice article! Affiliate marketing is perfect for bloggers as long as they offer quality content and are upfront about it. If people are willing to donate money to YouTubers via Patreon, why wouldn’t they buy something that they want or need through the site or blog of someone that offers them great content and support his or her efforts? It’s a win – win kind of deal.
Whether you are making a video on the common subject or for the purpose of affiliate marketing, few things are needed to get success to get a perfect video. There is a difference between a content creation and a video production. For a blog content, you don’t need to show your confidence to build the trust factor, but if you are making a video, you need smart approach towards the subject so as to gain audiences trust.

Automate what you can. There are plenty of digital marketing tools available.[11] Again, some of them will require you to make an investment, but if it gives you more free time to build your business, then the return on investment should be positive.
In August of 2011, I started my personal finance blog with the hopes of teaching people how to save money after reading a magazine that featured a personal finance website in one of their articles. Due to that website, I became extremely interested in personal finance blogs, and my interest in blogging just grew from there. Before August of 2011, I didn’t even know that blogs existed. I didn’t know what they were, I didn’t know that they could make money, or anything like that.
