Few things destroy a good relationship with your audience as quickly as too many pushy sales messages. The last thing you want is for readers to think you care more about squeezing every last penny out of them than you do about helping them succeed.
Facebook isn’t the only social media site that allows affiliate links. You could also use Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram to make money as an affiliate marketer. But remember, since you don’t technically own your social media accounts, you need to follow the rules each site has regarding affiliate links. And, as a general rule, you shouldn’t only be posting, pinning, or tweeting affiliate links alone. Instead, focus on the quality of content first and only include affiliate links when they add value to the information you’re sharing.
Affiliate websites are often categorized by merchants (advertisers) and affiliate networks. There are currently no industry-wide standards for the categorization. The following types of websites are generic, yet are commonly understood and used by affiliate marketers.

Whenever I publish my income report or share how I earn money with my blog, I often use the term “affiliate marketing”. Bloggers and internet marketers who have been into online marketing for years are familiar with affiliate marketing, and also with the fact that it is the most lucrative way to earn money online.

And remember, these can include complementary products as well. If you write about travel, for instance, you can include tons of complementary products like luggage, headphones, backpacks, and clothing too.
First of all thanks for the valuable information your website have. I am in the Marketing and sales field of Banking and Pharmaceuticals for about 10 years. Problem is that I am not a techie person, can say I know how to browse internet and how to do emails and how to use facebook etc.

To track which purchases happens as a result of your recommendation(s), the merchant will provide you with a special link to use when linking to their website that contains a unique referral code assigned to you. If people click that unique link, and buy the product or service within a specified timeframe (the timeframe varies depending on the merchant), you get a commission on the sale.

  1. Amy, I’m often asked about how I make money from my blog. It can be quite challenging to explain, but you’ve done so here in a very easy-to-understand way. I will be bookmarking this post for the future…so when I’m asked again, I can say, “see what Amy says.” 😉 Thanks!
I do not use my own links unless I have express permission to do so (in writing). This is very important for many networks such as AdSense which will kick you out of the program if you click on the ads on your own site. One of my affiliates indeed did let me use my affiliate link to purchase a second of their products, but only one time. But I was so nervous, I emailed them and asked explicitly if I was reading that right. “So, can I click on my own affiliate link on my own blog and purchase this?” The response was, “Yes, you can use your own link.” And I wrote back again, “So, I will in no way be penalized if I click on my own affiliate link?” (I think I drove them crazy (Hi, can you say anal? 🙂 ) but they assured me it was fine…and it was. All that to say, be very, very careful! I know the fine print is tedious, but being familiar with the TOS (Terms of Service) is really to your benefit.
